Film Screening

Join us for a double film screening in Linenhall TU Dublin As part of @buildingchangeireland we are delighted to present two outstanding films (one Irish and one European) on the topic of demolition. With A special introduction by Dr. Ellen Rowley

Making Dust
This film essay looks closely at a rupture, the demolition of a church in Dublin through a portrait of the building's dismantling. The film points to questions of sustainability in architecture such as counting the embodied energy of this church. Tracing how materials were financed, grown and crafted, the project will provide scope for audiences to reflect on the life of the building itself, socially, culturally, and environmentally.

Film directed by artist Fiona Hallinan with an essay by Ellen Rowley. (Film length 45mins)

The Demolition Drama
The Irish premier of this film explores the current reality that buildings are viewed more as investments than as housing for people. Caused by speculation, millions of square meters sit empty and ruin, or they are being demolished and replaced. From the real estate sector to architects to the construction industry these sectors profoundly influence our environment and the fabric of society. Hear from Herzog & de Meuron and Lacaton & Vassal along with other leading European stakeholders.

A film by European citizens' initiative HouseEurope! (Film length 31mins)
